Real hospitality: We advocate for the ethical treatment of all living beings—
in restaurants, bars, and beyond.
Dreamed up in 2006.
Established in 2020.
Before Overthrow Hospitality, there was DeRossi Global, a collection of bars and restaurants that helped define a certain era of New York's downtown dining culture.
Since 2006, Ravi DeRossi and his team have created spaces with a strong point of view, from Amor y Amargo to Ladybird and Avant Garden.
In 2020, that foundation evolved into Overthrow Hospitality, a plant-based restaurant group grounded in the belief that food, design, and culture can come together to create something more meaningful.
Today, each concept reflects a different perspective, but all are driven by the same intention: to create experiences that stay with you, that invite you back, and are grounded in care for people, animals, and the planet.
Our Style
At Overthrow Hospitality, every detail is considered. From the design of each space to the rhythm of a meal, every element is shaped to create an experience that feels immersive, intentional, and complete.
This approach has placed our venues among New York City's most recognized dining and drinking destinations, with honors including Michelin Guide recognition for concepts like Avant Garden and Soda Club, as well as international acclaim for Amor y Amargo, which is consistently ranked among the world's best cocktail bars.
Across every concept, the focus remains the same: a commitment to craft that extends beyond the plate or glass, shaping an experience that feels cohesive, expressive, and deeply considered.

The New York Times
“Over the course of a decade or so, Mr. DeRossi, 42, has quietly, quirkily built up an empire of 15 drinking establishments and restaurants in downtown Manhattan, mostly, as well as in Brooklyn. You could say he’s a stealth prince of the East Village, and the corner of Avenue A and East Sixth Street is his Versailles.”
The Washington Post
“Ravi DeRossi, the restaurant mogul who’s made waves on the New York dining circuit with his efforts to turn his empire — or at least most of it — vegan. The crowning jewel of the kingdom is Avant Garden, an upscale farmhouse-chic sanctuary with an open kitchen and imaginative plant-based menu.”
Vogue
“Perhaps you’ve had a complicated cocktail at the East Village’s Death & Co., one of Manhattan’s most respected, proper cocktail bars. The visionary behind that stalwart is Ravi DeRossi, and over the years he’s gone on to open a slew of bars and eateries around the city. But most recently, his prerogative has been to flip many of his venues vegan, and open new places totally dedicated to plants, too.”
The New York Post
“When his pet Simon was diagnosed with cancer in 2015, restaurateur Ravi DeRossi decided to give up eating animals — and have his popular nightlife spots do the same. Last month, he opened Ladybird, an opulent vegan tapas joint, in the West Village space that was home to his popular Bourgeois Pig bar for 12 years.”
“It seems like DeRossi is almost always opening some new place, rejiggering his old places, and trying out new themes.”
— GrubStreet
